The Hack

To jailbreak an iPod Touch for FW 2.1, you’ll need a couple of things:
- PwnageTool 2.1.0.0 (the latest as of this entry)
- A Mac with iTunes 8 (this version necessary for PwnageTool and FW 2.1 to work)
- The 2.1 software itself iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw] (you decide how you get it – purchased or “other”- both work)
- An iPod Touch (duh)
- Some patience

- Connect your iPod Touch to your Mac and fire up PwnageTool 2.1.0.0
- If you don’t mind the nitty gritty (boot logo is the pineapple, etc.), choose Simple Mode as opposed to Expert which allows to you to change some features (preload Cydia apps, custom boot logo)
- Click on iPod Touch to begin
- PwnageTool will now look for your [iPod1,1_2.1_5F137_Restore.ipsw] file. If it can’t, manually search for it
- After it’s found, PwnageTool will create a Custom Firmware (jailbroken 2.1) and place it on your desktop (included are Cydia and Installer 4 and any other packages you’ve chosen through Expert mode)
- After this, PwnageTool will assist you in putting your iPod Touch into DFU mode (click here for extra help)
- When iTunes recognizes your iPod ready for restoration (it will let you know with a text box) hold down the OPTION button on your Mac and click on “Restore”
- A dialog box opens – find your Custom firmware (should be on your desktop)
- iTunes does the rest and in a few minutes, your iPod should restart with your brand new jailbroken iPod Touch v2.1!
- Congratulations! You can now access the App Store as well Cydia and Instaler 4!
Good luck!
