The Hack

To jailbreak your iPhone 3G S for 3.1.2, you’ll need a couple of things:

• PwnageTool 3.1.4 (the latest as of this entry)
• A Mac with iTunes 9
• The 3.1.2 software itself (you decide how you get it – purchased or “other”- both work)
• An iPhone 3G S itself
• Some patience (just a little)

1. Connect your iPhone 3G S to your Mac and fire up PwnageTool
2. If you don’t mind the nitty gritty (boot logo is the pineapple, etc.), choose Simple Mode as opposed to Expert which allows to you to change some features (preload Cydia apps, custom boot logo)
3. Click on iPhone #G S to begin
4. PwnageTool will now look for your 3.1.2 Firmware file. If it can’t, manually search for it.
5. After it’s found, PwnageTool will create a Custom Firmware and place it on your desktop (included are Cydia and any other packages you’ve chosen through Expert mode).
6. After this, PwnageTool will assist you in putting your iPhone 3G S into DFU mode (click here for extra help)
7. When iTunes recognizes your iPhone 3G S ready for restoration (it will let you know with a text box) hold down the OPTION button on your Mac and click on “Restore”
8. A dialog box opens – find your Custom firmware (should be on your desktop)
9. iTunes does the rest and in a few minutes, your iPhone 3G S should restart with your brand new jailbroken iPhone!
10. Congratulations!
